How to Create a Basic Bath Bomb with Natural Ingredients

Bath bombs are fizzy fun for all ages.

This basic bath bomb recipe is the one I use the most. It's a favourite and a great basic starting point. When you start making bath bombs, they can need a bit of practice, but after a few times, they are surprisingly quick and easy to make. The kids can have fun making them too!

Once you perfect this basic recipe, you can then get all fancy and add things like colours and flowers!

Typically in formulations we measure ingredients using percentages (%) however this basic recipe, has been put together using metric measaurments (cups and tbsp). That way anybody can try it without needing scales

    Basic Bath Bomb Recipe

    • Bath Bomb Moulds
    • I/2 cup of Epsom Salts
    • 1/2 cup of Citric Acid
    • 3/4 cup of Cornflour
    • 1 cup of Bicarb of soda (Baking Soda)
    • 1 tablespoon of liquid carrier oil
    • 1 teaspoon of witch hazel
    • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
    • 15 drops of essential oils
    • Plus 1 small spray bottle with witch hazel for extra spritzing if needed.

    Method

    • Mix all your dry ingredients together
    • Add your wet ingredients slowly to the dry mix, ensure you keep stirring to combine the mixture, so you don't activate the fizz
    • Your mixture should end up with the consistency of wet sand. if it is too dry, add a few sprays of witch hazel, but be careful, don’t add too much moisture otherwise you will activate the fizz.
    • Place your mixture into moulds and then let dry for 24 to 48 hours.
    • This recipe makes approximately 5 or 6 large bath bombs.

    TIP

The hardest part about making bath bombs is to make sure you don’t add too much liquid to the mix and activate the fizz.
