Glycerine is a natural liquid extracted from vegetable sources. It's a common ingredient in natural skincare. It is a humectant, and it draws water from the environment.

Glycerine is a transparent liquid that has no odour and a thick, viscous consistency. Glycerine has many functions, it is a self-preserving ingredient, it attracts and holds moisture.

How we use Glycerine

  • Gels
  • Toners
  • Creams
  • Lotions
  • Micellar Waters
  • Glycerites

INCI: Glycerin

Use level: 1 - 10% is typical

Solubility: Water soluble.

Temperature: It is temperature stable and you can heat if necessary

Source: Glycerine is a by product of saponification, Non-Palm, Vegetable Source:  Derived from Canola Oil and Soy

Note: Glycerine is a humectant and in small amounts is hydrating, this is why it is usually add it to formulations, however if you add a very high percentage to your formulation, it can actually have the opposite effect and draw moisture from the skin.

Although Glycerine is preserving, this does not mean it can be used as a 'preservative'

Packaging: All our 50g, 100g  are packaged in amber glass. The 200g, 500g and 1kg is in PET plastic.

Glycerine is measured and sold by weight in grams or kilograms, rather than by volume in millilitre. This is because glycerine is denser than water, meaning it weighs more. For example, one gram  of Glycerine does not equal one millilitre in volume.
