5 Easy Ways to use Epsom Salt around the Home

When you think of Epsom Salts, what do you think of?

For me, I think of long soaks in a warm tub, to relieve aching muscles. I believe there are many people who think the same thing.

There are many ways to use epsom salt. Here's 5 easy ways to use epsom salt around the home

1. Remove splinters

Now here's one for parents who have kids who like to climb trees. You can soak your finger in an epsom salt bath for easier splinter removal.

What to do: In 1 cup of warm water, dissolve 1/3 cup epsom salt and stir until completely dissolved. Soak the finger with the splinter for at least 10 minutes and carefully remove with disinfected tweezers or a sewing needle.

2. Soothe aching and tired feet

If you've been on your feet all day, or if you have squeezed into shoes that are too tight, there's nothing like soaking them in a warm foot bath.

What to do: Add half a cup of epsom salt to a tub of warm water, soak your feet for 20 minutes. follow up with a gorgeous foot rub with a peppermint foot balm.

3. Clean tile grout

You can use epsom salt as a tile and grout cleaner. This will leave the tiles sparkling.

What to do: Mix equal parts epsom salt and liquid dish detergent. Apply the mix to the tile, and leave it to soak for a minute or two. Scrub to remove dirt and grime and then rinse clean.

Tip - For natural cleaning, I use Thieves dishwashing detergent and for extra cleaning ooomph, I combine the epsom salt, and detergent with bicarb soda.

4. Exfoliate your body with an epsom salt scrub

Get rid of rough elbows and knees and remove dead skin cells by exfoliating your body with epsom salt.

What to do: In a small container or jar, combine epsom salt with a carrier oil. In the bath or shower, scoop it out and massage your body, focusing on the dry patches of skin.

Tip: You can add essential oils to the carrier oil, for added benefits. Just be careful of getting out of the bath or shower as the carrier oil can make it a bit slippery.

5. Nourish your house plants

Epsom salt contains magnesium and sulfur which can help to nourish plants.

What to do: Sprinkle some epsom salt around the base of the plant. You can also dissolve it into the watering can before watering the soil. You can do this every few months.

ABOUT EPSOM SALT

What is epsom salt?

Epsom salt is also known as magnesium sulfate. It's a chemical compound made up of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen. It is one of many naturally occurring mineral salts

It gets its name from the town of Epsom in Surrey, England, where it was originally discovered.

Sourcing

Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) was originally created by boiling down mineral waters which sprung at Epsom. Magnesium sulfate can also be found naturally in mines and limestone caves, however natural epsom salt is a rare commodity, as very few natural epsom salt deposits still exist around the world.

Now most epsom salt is produced by a chemical process and are manufactured by combining Magnesium and Sulphur compounds together.

Our epsom salt is natural and is sourced from Germany, one of the only naturally occurring deposits of Epsom Salt in the world.
